A 44-year-old Crest Hill man and his 19-year old daughter have admitted in plea deals that they starved their pet dog to death.
Mark Obidowicz of Crest Hill was sentenced to one year in prison Monday for aggravated animal cruelty.
His daughter Nicole received two years of probation and 100 hours of community service for misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Authorities said the family's dog was a one-year-old Siberian husky. It weighed 17.3 pounds when it died in late October. That's one-tenth of a pound less than it weighed at four months old.
Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Chang said both defendants admitted the dog wasn't regularly fed or given water. It was kept in a cage in the Obidowicz home.
Animal control officers discovered its body buried behind the home.
