PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) - The U-S Human Society has filed a class-action lawsuit against a Pembroke Pines pet store, alleging the owners sold sick animals with genetic diseases without telling customers.
According to the lawsuit, Wizard of Claws allegedly sold animals raised in so-called "puppy mills," instead of by reputable breeders. It also claims that dozens of pets died from severe health problems and genetic defects shortly after being sold.
Investigators found that Wizard of Claws refused to reimburse customers the purchase price of sick pets or veterinary treatments for them -- violating state law.
The pet store's owners dispute the allegations.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for customers who bought pets from the store.
