Pet store chain's WNY equine operations to close

Brockport - More than 250 jobs will be affected when the nation's largest pet store chain closes its equine operations in western New York.

PetSmart is getting out of the equine business and plans to close its State Line Tack store in Brockport, in Monroe County just west of Rochester.

A catalog and distribution and call center will also be shut down this year, and the company plans to close its retail store in Brockport early in 2008.

In all, about 270 jobs will be affected.

Company officials say some of the employees could find jobs with other PetSmart stores in western New York.

The company operates 28 stores and employs more than one-thousand people in New York state.
