Pet food offered for spaying or neutering pets

Society for the Protection of Animals Inc. is offering $50 worth ofpremiumpet food to any resident of Sandusky County who spays or neuters their pet(s) during March or to anyone who adopts a dog from the Sandusky County Dog Pound.

Areceipt from your veterinarian or dog pound dated anytime in March is necessary.

An SPA volunteer will deliver the food to your home after you call (419) 334-2773 and supply the needed information.
Spaying and neutering helps reverse the tragedy of pet overpopulation, reduces your pet's chances of developing deadly, costly medical problems, and improves your pet's behavior.

One cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens in seven years. One dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in six years.

An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killedin shelters each year. That's one about every six and one half seconds. Millions more are abandoned, only to suffer from illness or injury before dying.Seven dogsand cats are born every day for each person born in the U.S. Of those, only one in five puppies and kittens stay in their original home for their natural lifetime. The remaining four are abandoned to the streets or end up at shelters.

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals.

SPA is a nonprofit organization comprised of unpaid volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering, please call for information. We offer various volunteer opportunities.
